Austen Arrowheads were founded in 1969 by a group of local football enthusiasts who lived in Stevenage. The name Austen was chosen to reflect the area of the town where they lived which was Austen Paths in the Chells. Although the club was founded in 1969 they did not enter a team in the local league until 1971. From the outset the policy of the club was to provide junior and youth football to players of varying abilities from all areas of the Town. The club has adhered to this policy throughout the ensuing years.
Austen Arrowheads joined the Stevenage eights league in 1971 for players aged under 9. For the older players aged 10 and above, they entered teams in the Stevenage Minor League.
The under 11`s were the first Austen team to enter the Royston Crow League in the1989/90 season, and due to the demise of the Stevenage Minor League the under 12`s and under 13`s joined them the following year. Although the club is always well represented in the Royston Crow League, they have also entered teams in the Mid Herts League, the Chiltern League and the Stevenage Mini Soccer League.
For the first 18 years of the clubs existence there was very limited success on the field with the club winning just 2 awards, The Most Sporting Team Award in the1975/76 season and under 10`s cup finalists in the 1982/83 season. In fact most of the teams were languishing near the bottom of their respective divisions. The image portrayed was one of a friendly club with average teams.
This was all to change during the1986/87 season when the club started to win trophies consistently at all ages, rising to become one of the premier clubs in North Hertfordshire. Due to their exploits in the East Anglian Cup they built a renowned and formidable reputation in the East of England. To date the club has won in excess of 100 trophies at all ages from under 7`s up to under 17`s.
Throughout this remarkable turnaround in the clubs playing fortunes, it is to their credit that they have retained their friendly image.
December 2005 Austen Arrowheads became an F.A. CHARTER STANDARD CLUB. They are also in negotiations with 2 local Stevenage Schools to have exclusive use of their facilities, mutually benefiting the club, Schools and sponsor.
